From Triathlon To Flyathlon

See what I did there 🙂

I used to race against Colin over twenty years ago in triathlon and he was recommended my coaching for mountain biking. It was awesome to see him again and to coach him at his new chosen sport of mountain biking. He wanted to learn to jump, but the session went further than he thought as I brought him through jumps, drops, steeps, cornering, riding obstacles and so on. Colin applied his new skills to everything using the mental skill set i teach.

Amazing session dude!

Ian And Mark Wanted To Learn To Jump

Among other techniques but on meeting, I explained the simple skill set I teach and it’s application.I corrected their missing skills and made some small adjustments to their set up (explained in my youtube vids )

Looking and positioning were paramount in needing work and also Marks’ footwork. Jumps, drops, berms, steeps, obstacles, pumping and gap jumps were all ridden and they both understood when it was right or wrong and why.

Luke Returns With His Mates

I coached Luke last year and he wanted to return and do another session but this time with his mates Mike and Gareth.

I isolated the skills that needed work, positioning and footwork and that enabled me to work on their mental skills too.

I built the session up gradually and we applied their skills set to as many sections as possible. Tabletops, gap jumps, drops, berms and wall rides were all on the menu.

Mike, Tony And Chris Pre Alps Session

Mike and the boys booked in to understand what they needed to do in their riding s and how it can help them on their annual Alps trip.

I broke down their skills sets and found Footwork and positioning needed work and Later, their Looking skills too.

Immediately, I adjusted their set ups and they felt the difference.

Drops suddenly felt simple, Riding over large obstacles and jumps became easy and cornering became faster too.

Xc Race Coaching

Dan races nps xc races and wanted to get better technically and understand what he needed to do on a mountain bike. I explained the physical skills and isolated body positioning and looking needed correcting and some very small adjustments made huge differences.

I worked hard with Dan on gaining speed and not trying to be fast. It was apparent that it felt slow to him but he knew it was faster as a by product.

We worked on applying a simple skills set to lots of different environments and linked them together.

For over 6hrs , Dan worked hard on linking his new skills set together. Linking steeps to corners, turning through drop offs, gap jumps, drops, corners, controlling air time and distance, switchbacks and riding over obstacles to name just a few..

I really enjoyed being part of this session as it wasn’t just airtime but was about simple techniques.

Tom From Australia Pt2

So today was a follow on session from part one yesterday. I spent time first up reinforcing the things we covered yesterday and soon he was primed and ready to push on further.

I then moved into linking jumps with short run ups between so Tom could really focus on the separation of techniques. I worked more on his mental skill set today and he applied them to riding woodwork, Narrow run up drops, steeps and linking sections even more.

What a fantastic two days it was and Tom ended the session happy and knowing what to work on and why.

A 3rd Session For Max

Today was Max’s 3rd session and he wanted to develop his riding further as he’d already progressed to large gap jumps but found he sometimes lost control during flight.

I isolated his technique error and he understood why it was happening then I was able to gradually move him through linking gap jumps together and judging speed and distance.
